Steamed Sweets Buns
Steamed bun is a light and fluffy bread made mostly from yeast and wheat. It has many versions across the world such as Bao, Jjinppang, Tingmo, etc. It can be made with or without a filling and either sweet or savoury. It is very popular in Asia especially China, Japan and Korea.
Here I have made a sweeter version using the left over dough from cinnamon rolls recipe.
For the egg-less version and quicker recipe with no yeast and no proofing steps, read the tips below
Hope you enjoy.
Tips before making:
- For egg-less version either replace eggs completely or use plain yogurt.
- For a quicker yeast free version use baking powder + baking soda. This recipe would require 1.5 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Add eggs one by one to dough mixture as this helps in even mixing
- Always line the pan with butter to avoid the buns from sticking
- If you use regular yeast, it will take longer time for activating
- Mix yeast in lukewarm milk/water. Hot liquid with kill the yeast
